Maine’s biennial budget has increased roughly 20% every budget cycle, now ballooning to over $10 billion. Rep. Boyer introduced LD 835 An Act to Phase Out the Income Tax, which would reduce the personal income tax to zero after five years. Each year, the state would reduce the budget proportionally to fund the tax increase. Working-class Mainers deserve tax relief. Unfortunately Democrats rejected the bill.
A member of the burgeoning adult-use cannabis industry reached out to Rep. Boyer about an unnecessary regulation that has cost their business tens of thousands of dollars. He introduced LD. 2147 which makes it so that the universal cannabis symbol could be on the package of edible gummy products, rather than on each gummy. Despite buying the correct molds to produce their edibles, the small business owner was refused by the Office of Cannabis Policy to bring their product to market. LD 2147 fixed this and was passed by over two-thirds of the Maine House and Senate and became law on April 21, 2024.
